Gunner’s Cold Weather Door | Gear Review

cold weather hunting dog

Okay, so we just received one of Gunner’s new cold weather doors that snaps right onto the front of their hunting dog kennels and I was pretty excited to try it out. We made a little video showing Bob putting it together and attaching it to our dog kennel and if he can do it, so can you.

Anyway, let’s talk a little about these cold weather doors for the dog kennel, shall we? It’s pretty lightweight and sturdy and much like other Gunner products, they are built with purpose. Honestly, it seems like someone thought of every little detail to make this a truly smart idea and not just another thing to sell on the website. It’s pretty easy to pop onto the door and pop off, although it’s not so easy that I’d worry about it flying off the kennel on my way to a duck hunt. They do have a small leash that clips to the kennel and I use that as a backup safety feature.

Overall Review

I like the Cold Weather Door and will be using it on my way to early morning diver hunts or even just taking the dogs for a run during the winter time. I like being able to easily snap it onto and off of the dog kennel and there’s not much of a downside for it. Why not get a cold weather door for your dog?

Highlights I like

  • The door is lightweight and has a strong magnet that makes the door snap to your existing kennel door. Once you screw in the magnets and get it set up the first time… it’s a piece of cake.

  • When combined with their All Weather kit, your dog will need to spend 1/10th the energy to stay warm… that’s a pretty big difference.

  • The door is made of a waterproof material and it’s easy to clean.

Highlights to improve

  • To get the maximum effect of the cold weather door, you should pair it with their All Weather kit, which makes the whole deal more expensive… but still worth it.

  • I’d like a Cold Weather Door in camo, please?

Important Note

  • You need to make sure your dog gets fresh air so they don’t get sick (or worse) from the carbon dioxide staying inside the kennel!

  • You shouldn’t keep your dog in a kennel during absurd, dangerously cold weather so regardless of having awesome gear… use your head and take care of your dog.
